Chronology of cameras Chinon
Le Chinon CE II Memotron is an evolution of the CE Memotron, released in 1974. In the early 1970s, Chinon was primarily known as a manufacturer for other brands such as Rollei in Singapore, or for Bolex. The CE Memotron, with its numerous qualities, provided an opportunity for Chinon to establish itself as a top-tier manufacturer. The CE Memotron II quickly followed the CE to address some of its shortcomings.
A green indicator near the eyepiece lights up when the shutter release is half-pressed in automatic mode, the battery is correct, and the shutter is cocked. The indicator remains lit if exposure compensation is locked.
The CE II operates even with a defective battery, at a mechanical speed of 1/90.
The eyepiece now includes an internal blind.
In France, Chinon SLR cameras are less known and less common than those of other Japanese brands. This might be due to the brand's late arrival in the market and a delay in gaining recognition. However, Chinon regularly released new models from the early 70s until the late 80s, with a very good level of quality, ensuring full compatibility with M42 and later K mount lenses, at a very attractive price.
